Battlefield Heroes
I liiike this game. I've been playing for about 4hrs straight this afternoon. The cartoony style of the graphics are awesome. The sounds effects from the alarm that rings when you leave the battlefield, to the "woohoo" of the wave, to the "hop" when you jump are also as good. The bright colours of the fields, the beach, the sea depict a very welcoming and friendly environment when funny enough, there's a war going on.
The best part is to "fly" that damn plane. I get all excited everytime. When the rotor goes, it's the same feeling you get when the roller coaster makes its slow ascent to the top of the track, and as soon as the plane leaves the ground, it's utter madness. "FLY PLANE! FLYYYYY!!!". Because an airplane is hard to control, it goes down twice as fast as it went up, but the excitement was oh well worth it. After the crash, your plane is on fire and the message "you had an accident" is displayed on your screen. However your only thought is "Awesome" :)
The only thing that bothered me was not being able to choose in which field I wanted to go. So I couldn't meet up with friends on the same field to play(or maybe there's a way of doing this but we haven't figured it out yet). Also, since we couldn't meet up in the fields, we chatted outside the game. But because the game goes automatically to fullscreen, in order for me to chat, I had to quit the game everytime and get disconnected from the server. It was bothersome.
Moreover, I wouldn't call myself a gamer. So, dealing with the 1,2,3,4,5,6,A,W,D,left ctrl keys to navigate was kind of hard. But I wouldn't complain much about it because eventually, you get used to it.
Any special knowledge to play?
I would say, stealth and patience. I like rushing in and shooting like a madman, but obviously i'm a beginnner(I even witnessed the enemy team chatting and calling me "noob" lol!) and my weapons are not the upgraded ones...so yeah.
Objectives and rules of game?
There are 4 flag posts. To win the game your team has to raise your flag on all 4 posts. The only rule that I saw flashing in yellow on the screen was "No profanity. Respect other players."
Any physical/conceptual boundaries?
I was very impressed when I found out that I could fly towards the horizon with no walls (visible or invisible) stopping me. Yes it's true that once you get out of the field, an alarm rings and you have 15seconds to get back to the game or you automatically die. But I was expecting some invisible wall like most games have that would prevent me from going further. I also jumped off a cliff into the deep blue sea thinking that I'm going to die, but no. My dear soldier started swimming! That's when I thought that this game was well thought out. Everything works! :)
